José L Méndoza, M.D., F.A.C.P. joined Maryland Oncology Hematology, P.A. in 2006 after serving 3 years as Chief of Hematology and Oncology at the Salem Veteran Affairs Medical Center in Virginia. He completed his fellowship in 2003 at the Washington Hospital Center, where he also served as Chief Resident from 1999-2000. During that year, he worked on a research project that led him to an oral presentation at the International Society of Thrombosis and Haemotasis. He is a 1992 graduate of Universidad Nacional Mayor de San Marcos in Lima, Peru. Subsequently, he worked as a general practitioner before moving to the United States.

Dr. Méndoza is board certified in internal medicine, medical oncology and hematology and is the recipient of the James Leonard award from the American College of Physicians, District of Columbia Chapter. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology and a fellow of the American College of Physicians. Dr. Méndoza is fluent in Spanish and has volunteered his time in several events organized by the Hispanic community. Dr. Méndoza lives in suburban Maryland with his family. He enjoys his free time with them and continues to learn from them every day.
