Biography

Dr. DeMonaco joined the practice upon completing his Hematology-Oncology training in 2006.

Dr. DeMonaco has an undergraduate degree in Biochemistry from Penn State University.  This background led him to develop a special interest in Oncology during medical school and residency, when the field was undergoing an exciting shift with better understanding of the mechanisms of cancer and the development and use of improved therapies which target the problem.  He currently serves on the Pharmacy and Therapeutics Committee for our practice.  This group monitors the use of cancer drugs for MOH and evaluates new drugs as they are approved.

One of Dr. DeMonaco’s primary interests is doctor-patient communication. During his fellowship, he participated in a dedicated program funded by the National Cancer Institute with the goal of helping oncologists-in-training improve their communication skills with patients who have a serious illness.

He enjoys swimming and the Pittsburgh Steelers.  He lives in Bethesda with his wife and their 3 children.
