Dr. Jason Taksey is a Maryland native from Silver Spring. He attended the University of Maryland, College Park, in the honors program, where he was inducted into Phi Beta Kappa and graduated summa cum laude. At a very young age, his experiences with personal health issues led him to develop a passion for healthcare and the rapid pace of medical advancement; after completing his undergraduate program, he pursued his Doctor of Medicine degree at the Pennsylvania State University College of Medicine. Dr. Taksey went on to complete an internal medicine residency at Temple University Hospital and a fellowship in hematology and oncology at the Fox Chase Cancer Center.

Dr. Taksey began clinical practice in 2007 when he joined the Annapolis Oncology Center. From 2009 to 2014, he was concurrently on staff at Johns Hopkins Hospital, where he developed expertise in genitourinary (GU) malignancies under one of the thought leaders in the field. In 2020, he proudly followed his team of colleagues to Maryland Oncology Hematology and became a founding partner in the Annapolis division of Maryland Oncology Hematology.

As a medical oncologist, Dr. Taksey primarily designs and implements systemic therapy regimens for cancer. He also performs bone marrow biopsies. Dr. Taksey treats all types of cancer but specializes in GU cancers, which include prostate, bladder/urothelial, kidney, and testicular cancers. During his time in practice, Dr. Taksey has served as the primary investigator for multiple clinical trials with a focus on GU malignancies and has served on the hospital cancer committee. He is a published author in several peer-reviewed medical journals and has been recognized as a Top Doctor in Annapolis by What’s Up Annapolis magazine six times. He is a member of the American Society of Clinical Oncology, the American Society of Hematology, and the Maryland DC Society of Clinical Oncology.

Dr. Taksey knows from personal experience how much interactions with healthcare team members can impact a patient in both good and bad ways. He sees kindness and compassion as essential components of treatment. Dr. Taksey believes patient care must involve a dialogue between the patient and the physician; his role is to advise patients based on known data and help them develop a personalized treatment plan based on their goals and wishes. He is proud to serve patients at Maryland Oncology Hematology, where they can access state-of-the-art cancer therapies in their community.

Dr. Taksey lives in the Annapolis area with his wife and two children. In his free time, he enjoys spending time at activities for his children, including sporting events. As a hobby, he enjoys cycling.
