Dr. Gaffar serves as the Practice Research Leader for Maryland Oncology Hematology.  He joined Maryland Oncology Hematology in 2020.

Dr. Gaffar believes in effective communication and getting to know his patients as if they are part of his own family. He follows a patient-centered approach as a member of multi-disciplinary team. He has a strong interest in educating his patients and understanding their goals.  Dr. Gaffar has the expertise to provide innovative cancer care and devotes time to his patients from the moment they walk in the door. He understand the importance of his availability to his patients.

Dr Gaffar has practiced for over 18 years in Baltimore area, initially for a practice in Westminster, MD for over 5 years.  He then transitioned to the University of Maryland. St. Joseph Medical Center Cancer Institute for over 9 years.  Additionally, he was Clinical Assistant Professor of Medicine at the University of Maryland Medical School.

He strongly encourages clinical trial participation to continue advances in cancer care and to-date has enrolled patients as site investigator for dozens of clinical trials . He serves on several national committees for cancer research including gastrointestinal cancers, thoracic cancers, and early development trials.  He has several publications as well. 

He has been honored as a Top Doctor in Baltimore Magazine several times, and as a Castle Connolly Top Doctor in Medical Oncology for 2022 and 2023. 

Dr Gaffar is a strong proponent of physical fitness with CrossFit; practices somatic meditation; enjoys ceramics; exploring lands near and far; and spending time with family.  He resides in Howard County.
