Dr. Danubia Hester is a medical oncologist and hematologist who joined Maryland Oncology Hematology in 2022. Danubia spent her childhood in Baton Rouge, Louisiana but relocated to Bowie, Maryland in her youth. She became a Blue Devil for undergraduate school at Duke University and pitched a tent outside Krzyzewskiville before big games. She majored in Chemistry. Dr. Hester earned her medical degree from Howard University College of Medicine before completing her internship and her residency in internal medicine at Inova Fairfax Hospital in Falls Church, VA, where she also served as chief resident. She also completed a fellowship in hematology oncology at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, WI. Dr. Hester is board certified in Internal Medicine and Hematology. She is board eligible for Oncology.

Prior to completing her medical degree, Dr. Hester gained experience as a research assistant in the Department of Microbiology and Immunology at the University of Maryland School of Medicine. In 2019, she served as the event chair and organizer of the inaugural Health Disparities Symposium at Inova Fairfax Medical Campus. She has been published in several medical publications, including ImmunoHorizons, the Journal of Clinical Gastroenterology, and the Journal of Pancreatic Cancer. She also part of a research team that presented research at ASCO.

Dr. Hester has also contributed to the medical community internationally. She participated in medical research identifying barriers to care in Ghana and served as a medical intern in Haiti, triaging and treating obstetric and gynecological patients. Dr. Hester also participated in a medical exchange program with Gondar University in Ethiopia.

Danubia likes to scour the internet for travel deals, watch professional tennis (she is two short of seeing all the grand slams), and sample cuisine from all the local foodie hangouts. She loves spending time with her family especially with her husband and daughters and enjoys homemade Venezuelan cuisine by her mother.
