Biography
Zoë A. McKinnell, MD, is an Assistant Professor of Medicine at the George Washington University School of Medicine and Health Sciences and a medical oncologist and hematologist specializing in the diagnosis and treatment of blood disorders and cancer. She joined the faculty after completing her Hematology and Medical Oncology Fellowship at George Washington University and her Internal Medicine Residency at the Icahn School of Medicine at Mount Sinai.
Dr. McKinnell’s clinical and research interests focus on malignant hematology, leukemia, myeloproliferative neoplasms, and improving outcomes for patients with hematologic malignancies. Her research has leveraged large national datasets, including the Veterans Affairs VINCI database, to investigate cancer epidemiology, treatment outcomes, and healthcare disparities among veterans. She has authored numerous peer-reviewed publications and presented her work at leading national meetings, including the American Society of Clinical Oncology (ASCO) and the American Society of Hematology (ASH).
Recognized for her academic and leadership achievements, Dr. McKinnell served as Chief Fellow during her oncology training and received the Albert L. Tucker and Elizabeth T. Tucker Postdoctoral Fellowship to support her clinical and translational cancer research. She is board certified in Internal Medicine, Hematology, and Medical Oncology and is an active member of both ASCO and ASH.
Outside of medicine, Dr. McKinnell enjoys endurance athletics, cooking, and travel. An accomplished runner, she has completed more than 20 full and half marathons, including the Boston Marathon, for which she qualified three times. She previously served as president of the Brown University Marathon Running Club. In addition to her interest in fitness and the outdoors, she enjoys hiking, cycling, and exploring new destinations. Dr. McKinnell is also a former food blogger and writer for Big Girls Small Kitchens College, where she combined her passion for cooking and writing.
